Welcome to My Life…..The Life of a ToolBox Diva!

Welcome to My Life, the Life of a ToolBox Diva!

When I chose to start a blog about being what I consider a “Tool Box Diva”, it was hard to know where to start.  Sure, I had a snappy name, the pizazz to back it up, but I’ve done so many projects over my DIY lifespan that a launching point for this new adventure was hard to pin down.  It only made sense to start where my passion truly took off.  Where I realized, I wasn’t just a DIY enthusiast, I was the literal embodiment of a “Tool Box Diva”!  That’s when the journey turned into a way of life because for the first time; I was living my dream!

3 years ago my story took a bit of a twist.  I was newly single….again.  I won’t lie, I considered making this a cartoon blog of my dating life since my friends always relish in hearing about my date night horrors!  I was also in grad school, finishing up my degree and working as a commercial banker.  If life had a road map, I was following directions precisely.  Taking the most direct route and never deviating.  Then, I started taking home improvement classes, exploring this part of myself that I knew I was good at but didn’t expect, or at best envision, I could make a living at.  I was always creating, building, and re-designing…everything; even from an early age.  Learning my trade skills from my father and uncles, always eager to get my hands on something I could bring new life too or erect from nothing.  It was a rush like nothing else!

So, I needed a big canvas and coincidentally enough, I was yearning to be a homeowner.  It was a perfect marriage!  I was patient and out waited the competitive Washington DC market.  I wanted a single family home with lots of trees (I’m a country girl at heart), and until then it was just out of my reach.

That’s when I lucked into this gem….okay, maybe gem is a strong word! If I had been searching for the diamond in the rough, I had just found genuine bona-fide cubic zirconia!

I know “they” say kitchens and bathrooms sell homes…..had I suffered temporary blindness?  My friends had the good sense to humor me.  “Oh wow Timisha!  It’s so nice!”  Maybe the loud wall paper had hypnotic qualities….We were all under its spell.

However, if my countless hours of HGTV binge watching have imparted any wisdom upon me, it was that if the home had good bones, was in a great neighborhood with nice curb appeal and could appreciate in value with a little elbow grease (or, in this case, A LOT of elbow grease) that it would pay for itself in spades.

I had never owned a fixer upper but it was too late to turn back now!  This was going to be a challenge, but with any challenge comes the ability to learn.  I was never so prepared to learn so much.  I put my heart and soul into this house, a house that was slowly turning into a home.  I’m hoping if this blog can even empower one woman to believe in herself, that she is capable of achieving so much more than just the “expected”.  Jump off the road map of life and take the path less traveled.  I did, and I’ve never been happier.

Welcome to my life, the life of a ToolBox Diva!
